TL;DR Progress summary (aka what we've been up to)

Start of a regular-ish progress summary - maybe weekly, maybe monthly, we’ll see. For those that struggle to keep up with hundreds of telegram messages, various Discourse dicussions, waffle/github, etc.

NOTE: This particular topic is not for discussion, please keeps replies brief and only to clarify/add items to the summaries.

In the week preceeding 17th Nov…

We, the HSF working group of approx 30 hackspace directors/trustees, settled on a high-level organisation for the various tasks/work-streams:

… and made some great progress against the critical tasks (github issue numbers in brackets):

Bootstrap Prep

• @russ and @jonty have made a start on formal articles - hoping to share within next few days (#31)
• @jonty is going to draft a mission statement to tie together the draft goals, benefits, etc on github
• @jonty shared the first logo concepts from Matt to gather initial feedback (#17)

Reach Out Prep

• @BuildTheRobots has continued contacting spaces for contact details to complete our initial contact database - currently 85% complete (#19)
• @stanto finished compiling the recent telegram logs into a more readable summary (#30), with help from @amunizp
• Discourse now properly configured to work as a mailing list (#35)
• Helpmonks configured (from contact@hackspace.org.uk) and set as non-profit account (#9)
• @NotQuiteHere is going to draft an introduction to the current orgas, what we’re doing, etc in prep for reach out - hope to share next week (#9, #7, #8, #10, #11)
• @axford has drafted an initial survey to be issued alongside the reach out comms (#36)

Hackspace Owners Manual

• @idnorton has added more access control content to the evolving hackspace owners manual (#2)

Spread the Word

• @NotQuiteHere issued a Doodle to nail down dates for a Hackspace Foundation v2 meetup (#27)

Aside from a busy Christmas/New Year, there has still been time to:

Bootstrap Prep

• @russ finalised the articles of association (v1) and submitted model articles for incorporation!! (#31)

New Website

• @russ has knocked together a new website for hackspace.org.uk

Hackspace Owners Manual

• @idnorton has been pushing on with the owners manual, with the access control section fairly complete

Spread the Word

• @russ has put out a teaser on the Google Groups site
• @axford has started work on the initial/launch comms (see Google Drive) and associated survey

stuff we’ve been up to since Jan 9th:

• Incorporated as UK Hackspace Foundation Ltd!! Officially formed on 9th Jan 2017
• Issued HSF membership survey - 13 results so far, to be resent to gather broader PoV
• Finalised bank account
• Updated hosting arrangements
• Updates to the “Hackspace Owners Manual”, including Swindon access control system
• We’ve engaged in a number of conversational topics here on the UK hackspaces foundation forum - from heating your hackspace, membership and relationship management through to health and safety topics. You should all subscribe
• Got a stall at Maker Faire to spread the word (return of the big map)

up to 11th April…

• Made the telegram channel public for other interested parties to join, in process of doing the same for the HSF Organisation category in the forum - see https://forum.hackspace.org.uk/t/participating-in-uk-hsf/
• Formed working groups for:
  • Web development - Website Working Group
  • Hackspace Owners Manual (topic TBD)
• Main website received a bunch of updates, inc a map, updated space list driven by master spreadsheet on google drive, etc - see details in web group topic
• Hackspace owners manual got an initial release, a contribution guide and is linked from the main website
• Sketched out a simple/fast process for signing-up new spaces, needs a bit of polish and approval to implement - see issue 44
• Added a bunch of ideas to the Brand Development topic - New Hackspace Foundation Branding
