Haringey Makers Group

Well, you can add me to the list of people trying to start a makers group in London. The list of things I don’t have are greater then list of things I do have, but I have started looking at registering as a charity and looking for possible locations.

Guys if you have any advice, people to talk to or basically anything, would be appreciated.

I would start by looking at the guides on our main site, obviously you may be intending to make a Maker Group that has a different focus from anything seen before, but many people before you have tried and failed to register a Hackspace/Makerspace type organisation as a charity because the defining characteristics of what can be registered doesn’t cover these types of organisations.

Anyone else tried the charity register route? I figured it’ll help with costs.

See the last paragraph in @russ’s blog about this: https://russ.garrett.co.uk/2009/10/25/starting-a-non-profit-in-the-uk/

We wouldn’t recommend it.

Thanks jonty, so no-go on the charity, start reading non-profit, check.

I’m loving the Richmond MakerLabs, just saying.
